Objectives:
-I will take photos of plants, they will be placed behind glasses of water to distort them.
- I will edit these photos so that the plants are clearly distorted and their color is very vibrant.
- I will edit these photos so that the plants are clearly distorted and their color is very vibrant.
Research:
The water glasses clearly distorts the image of the plants, if I arrange the glasses in different ways than maybe I will see different distortion patterns occur which could add a diversity to my photos.
Photos:
I took these photos at my house in front of my garage so I had a white background, this helped to keep the viewers eyes on the distorted object. I tried arranging the glasses of water in different ways to try and get different distortion patterns.
Edited Photos:
I edited these photos so that they were brighter because they were taken after the sun went down. I also used the clone stamp tool to try and get rid of some of the glare that was prevalent on the glasses.

5 Step Critique:
- Observe
- Describe: This photograph is a “4 x 6” digital print on glossy paper. This photo is taken of flowers behind two glasses, the glasses distort the leaves in this photo. The photo is horizontal and pays close attention to detail because the photographer was trying to capture the texture of the plants. The distortion of the plants is very apparent in this photo, the viewer has to take a second look to really see what is behind the glasses.
- Analyze: An element of art this photo represents is color which creates emphasis in this photo. Most of the photo is occupied by different shades of green, so the purple flowers that are randomly placed throughout the photo really draw the attention of the viewer. The flowers create emphasis in this photo because they really stand out against the green. Another element of art this photo shows is texture which creates the principle of design variety. The texture of the plants behind the glass really gives the viewer a closer look at the variety of patterns and detail apparent on the leaves. The variety is seen through the different shades of green and the different textures on the leaves.
- Interpret: My interpretation of this photo is it is trying to show the parts of flowers people don’t always pay attention to. Most people focus on the actual flower and totally disregard the leaves which are the base of the flower. I think the photographer chose to distort and magnify the leaves to show that you have to find the beauty in the picture without it being placed right in front of you. I also think this photo could be interpreted to show how nowadays nature is always under a microscope being studied and messed with. Although studying nature is important to gain new knowledge this photo shows this concept from a plant's point of view and it doesn’t seem that pleasant.
- Evaluate: I think this photo is successful because it really does a good job of distorting the different parts of the plant which is one of the objectives this artist was supposed to meet. Also the glasses really magnify the leaves giving them greater detail which adds a texture to the photo, this really draws the viewer to the photo and makes them look at it more closely. Something this artist could have done better is putting the plants and glasses behind a white background. Having a non white background can detract from the subject of the photo which causes the viewer to become distracted and not pay as much attention to the details of the subject as the artist intended.
